Update 2/23/97: The Kansas State Wildcats lost the Cotton Bowl to Brigham Young in a heartbreaker.
The Red Sox fired their manager after a near miss with the playoffs because he didn't get
along with the GM. Bill Parcells left town in dramatic fashion after losing the Super Bowl, becuase
of a disagreement with the owner of the club. Furthermore he blamed his players for a mental lapse on special teams which allowed Desmond Howard to return a kickoff for a touchdown. It seems rediculous that no blame was placed upon the special teams coach,
Bill Parcells. Adam Oates, a former assistant captain of the Boston Bruins, has lost the "A"
on his sweater because he blamed a pathetic team on management, stingy even by NHL standards. And the Boston Celtics have a coach and GM, who is
happy because the Celtics have the draft pick of the Dallas Mavericks, a team that is shaking things up. Some of us think that
the GM and coach of the Celtics should be unhappy about the situation and shaking things up. Instead neither
the Celtics or Bruins will have any coaching or management changes, because the teams are making money. And that
is the bottom line in professional sports. As Charles Barkley stated on Meet the Press, this is a product. And the younger players
have to learn that the sport is secondary to the business. And that I find pathetic
Update 11/20/96: The Red Sox did very well in their last games of the season, but did not make the playoffs. The Yankees won the World Series and even seemed kind of classy doing it.
Kansas State football stands at 8-2 after a loss in frigid Boulder. I guess they deserve those conditions for being senseless enough to reschedule it for TV after nightfall in mid-November in the Rockies.
Newsflash 8/30/96: Everyone but the Boston Globe has picked Kansas St. in the pre-season college football Top 25. And the Red Sox are trying to break the Bambino's curse and exorcise the ghost of Bucky Dent. Having gained 11 games on the Yankees in the month of August, they have 7 of their last 9 games against the Bronx Bombers of which the last four are at Fenway Park.
Early 1996: OK, the Kansas State Wildcats have played in their 3rd bowl game in 4 years (Kansas St. 54 Colorado St. 21), but the Boston Red Sox still haven't won a World Series since Babe Ruth left for the Yankees.
