The Wolf Whistle FAQ

Why does the design of this page look so plain?

You do not have Style Sheet support enabled within your browser. This page makes heavy use of Cascading Style Sheets as is intended by the HTML 4.0 specification. Currently CSS is only partially supported by Microsoft or Netscape and only in their 4.x web browsers if checked by the user in the preferences. Furthermore Navigator 4.x must also have javascript enabled to correctly display CSS.

Why do you use Cascading Style Sheets?

The ML in HTML stands for markup language. It was never designed to be a page layout language. The use of spaces, invisible gifs, and tables for layout purposes interferes with the actual outlining and mark up of a web page. It also interferes with the display of pages by non-graphic web agents. See Bobby for an explanation of universal access for web pages.

What's the point of "The Wolf Whistle"?

The Wolf Whistle provides a forum for the expression of opinions and views which may get lost in the noise of the wilderness otherwise.

Where did the name "The Wolf Whistle" come from?

A wolf whistle is a "politically incorrect" attempt at expressing attraction or affection which is often received with disgust or disdain.
The name originally was a Bronx cheer for the authors and editors of "The Thistle" at MIT, known as the "Alternative News Collective".
